Polestar hosted “Polestar Talks” on 23 November at Polestar Destination Herttoniemi with three fireside chats for the Helsinki design community of professional designers and aspiring advanced-degree students. I was honored to moderate the “POLESTAR / KOJA Treehouse” panel with Kristian Talvitie, Concept Designer, ULTRA Design & Strategy, and Martin Österberg, Head of Marketing & PR, Polestar Finland. I intimately know and love the incredible KOJA treehouse as I stayed over night in it, and wrote a story about it for wallpaper.com.

At this event, we went deeper into the subjects of sustainable design that maximizes functionality or aesthetics, beautiful environments that nurture people’s (and Earth’s) wellbeing, and the future of KOJA, which turned out to be still a mystery. I love the POLESTAR / KOJA universe for its creators’ mindset that dares to achieve a higher summit in so many fields: business, design, sustainability, promotion, creativity, collaboration, plus things that have never been done. I also enjoyed watching the video “Building of KOJA” in the slick space.

The other two panels were Good Design with Laura Juslin, fashion designer and founder of Juslin Maunula, and Tej Chauhan, a London-born industrial designer; and Design Towards Zero with Tomek Rygalik, founder of Studio Rygalik and Design Nature and Professor, Architecture Department, Aalto University both moderated by Konrad Olsson from Scandinavian MIND.

Precept minimizes waste without compromising look and feel. 3D-knit seat fabric is made exactly to size with no off-cuts and a mix of cork and discarded fishing nets are used to surface the seats, headrests, and carpets. Lightweight and innovative Bcomp, a flax-based composite material, is also used to form the seat-backs (Text by Polestar Finland). Photo: Naomi Moriyama
At the event, Polestar revealed its concept car “Precept.
